Independence & Objectivity |
Many internal auditors cannot distinguish between the concepts of independence and objectivity nor can they articulate the importance of each. Also, potential impairments and action to be takin in the event of impairment are not fully understood. This session explores both issues from definitional perspectives and uses applications and class exercises to reinforce concepts discussed. |

|
New IPPF - Raising the Bar |
In January, 2009, the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) became effective. The changes seem minimal on the surface; however, they contain numerous requirements not in effect previously. All auditors need a clear understanding of IPPF requirements to enable them to perform effectively and to develop a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) complying with the IPPF. |
4-8 |
|
QAR Assessor Update: Maintaining Excellence |
The IPPF requires periodic assessments or validations of internal audit quality at least every 5 years by a qualified reviewer. These QAR assessments must be performed by an independent and external validator or team. This program provides the Assessor(s) with review of the IPPF, discussion about current techniques and a hands-on case study to develop or enhance practical experience.

Corporate Governance
|
This presentation will examine and explore issues surrounding the audit of Corporate Governance from Senior Management and upwards to the Board of Directors. The key takeaway from the session is a greater appreciation of the challenges posed by strategic audits of corporate governance, the clear mandate of professional standards and one possible methodology to get key governance topics integrated into the audit planning and execution process. |
4-8 |
QAIP Practicum
|
The objective of the practicum is to complete substantially all of the participant’s annual QAIP internal assessment. This will be accomplished using a hands-on learning approach. To enable successful completion of the objectives, participants must assemble and bring to class prerequisite QA documentation in electronic format. Participants will enter this information into the QAR infocus software tool (on a laptop furnished to participant included in course fee) to facilitate the QA analysis and assessment. This session anticipates extensive sharing of knowledge about the IPPF requirements as well as discussion of leading practices among the participants and leaders. |
24 |
Using IPPF to improve IA Operations
|
This presentation focuses on practical issues arising from implementation of the new IPPF. The key takeaways from the session include: a deeper understanding of the changes to the former requirements, what you must do to implement these requirements into every day Internal Audit operations, and analysis of the value to be derived. |
